EggRobo

This page contains content from Sonic-News-Network, so credit where credit's due.

EggRobo, Egg Robot or Eggbot is an egg-shaped humanoid robot resembling Dr. Robotnik. It first appeared as an enemy in the game Sonic & Knuckles. In Sonic's storyline in that game, it only appeared as standard badnik enemy in the Sky Sanctuary Zone, after being seen launched from the Death Egg.
It is rather more prominent in Knuckles' storyline, as the EggRobo replaces Dr. Robotnik as the end-of-zone boss in every level up until the Hidden Palace Zone (except for Flying Battery Zone). In all of Knuckles' appearances prior to this, he had been allied with Robotnik. It's also implied that the EggRobo in Knuckles' story is the same one that appears in Sonic's imperfect ending (if the Super Emeralds aren't collected).
The EggRobo also appears in cut-scenes in the game. At the beginning of the game, while Knuckles is relaxing along with some of his animal friends in the Mushroom Hill Zone, the EggRobo drops a bomb in their midst that scares his friends away. The EggRobo is destroyed by Mecha Sonic (MK II) in the Sky Sanctuary Zone (the final level in Knuckles' storyline). The EggRobo restrains Knuckles, allowing Mecha Sonic to charge at him, but Knuckles breaks free and Mecha Sonic destroys the EggRobo instead.
EggRobo later appears in Sonic R as an unlockable character. It has abilities similar to Dr. Robotnik's in that game, being capable of launching missiles, though EggRobo is a bit slow. It is unlocked by getting all the five Sonic Tokens in the Regal Ruin course.
EggRobo also appears in Sonic Adventure 2 as a kart racing VMU Download with his own stage,[1] and again in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle as Rouge the Bat's unlockable sub kart, obtained by getting all the emblems of Rouge's missions.

An army of EggRobos appeared in the Sonic & Knuckles adaptation from Fleetway Editions' Sonic the Comic. In this, it was specified that the EggRobos were controlled directly by Robotnik from his control room aboard the Death Egg. Each model had cameras fitted into its eyes, allowing Robotnik to see everything, and a voice synthesizer allowed the doctor to communicate directly via the robots.[2] EggRobos could also function as regular badniks without Robotnik's direct control.[3][4]
The EggRobos first attacked Sonic and Knuckles in the volcano beneath Robotnik's Launch Base Zone. In this instance, Knuckles was able to defeat them by punching a hole in the wall, melting them all in a flood of boiling hot lava.[2] They reappeared after the Death Egg's launch. Sonic was able to reach the rising Death Egg by leaping off of a gliding Knuckles and ricocheting between dozens of EggRobos with his Spin Attack until he could smash through one of the station's portholes, but Knuckles was forced to return to the Floating Island.[5]
After Knuckles cleared the Floating Island of Robotnik's forces, one EggRobo was left behind, separated from Robotnik's control. When its internal power supply run low, it attempted to kidnap Jake, a young member of the Emerald Hill Folk (who were living in the Mushroom Hill Zone), to use as an organic battery. It failed to capture Jake, and was subsequently hunted down by Knuckles. It fought Knuckles on the surface of the Lava Reef Zone, and was destroyed by a gout of flame from underground.[3]
EggRobos did continue to be used on Mobius for the remainder of Robotnik's rule there. Three EggRobos chased Amy Rose around the Emerald Hill Zone while she was test flying a Top that had fallen from the Marble Garden Zone. These three were not directly controlled by Robotnik, but did frequently use Egg related puns (for example saying "Eggs-termination" instead of "extermination"). One was also fitted with a cloaking device. All three were destroyed when Amy crashed the Top into them with a remote control.[6]

Archie ComicsEdit Archie Comics section

EggRobos also appeared in the Archie Comics continuity. They were built by Snively Robotnik to be part of his own private army, with which he intended to move against his uncle, Doctor Robotnik, and take over Mobius himself. Although Snively referred to them as "EggRobos" in their first appearance, Antoine D'Coolette called

them "Eggbots," which was the name used in subsequent appearances. Following an ancient map, Snively used a group of EggRobos to excavate a site on the south side of Robotropolis, hoping to find some Krudzu. The EggRobos chased Antoine D'Coolette and fought the Knothole Freedom Fighters. It appeared as though the Freedom Fighters would be defeated, until Robotnik learned that Snively possessed "attack robots" more powerful than his own and sent a group of SWATbots to investigate. Snively quickly concealed all evidence of his EggRobos (thus allowing the Freedom Fighters to escape), and told Robotnik that they were simply digging robots that the Freedom Fighters had destroyed.[7]
Following Robotnik's demise and Snively's imprisonment in Devil's Gulag, Snively overheard two of his guards (Fleming and Smiley) discussing the return of Ixis Naugus. Snively used a transmitter hidden in his thumbnail to remotely activate a batch of Eggbots that had been hidden in special metal eggshells, then sent them to find the wizard.[8] The Eggbots used a giant drill to track down a power source in a subterranean stream, which proved to be a Power Ring. To power the drill, the used the containment cell that held the cyborg Monkey Khan. When Khan was released from the cell by Sally Acorn, he stole the Power Ring and destroyed the Eggbots. Snively sent his last cadre of Eggbots to stop Monkey Khan, but by the time they arrived Monkey Khan had already left with Sally. Sonic and Antoine were able to defeat some, but the rest cornered them on a cliff. They were saved by the timely return of Monkey Khan, and together the heroes were able to destroy the remaining Eggbots.[9]
EggRobo also made a cameo on the cover of Sonic X #11.
